Check a selection

Pick a week and we’ll recheck the math in front of you. Everything happens in your browser: it fetches the random number straight from drand and sends nothing to us.

Don’t take our word for it

Everything above was worked out by this page — and we wrote this page. So here is how to check the same thing yourself, using drand and a timestamp authority that have nothing to do with us.

Three things have to be true, and none of them depend on us being honest:

  1. The random number really came from drand.
  2. The list was sealed before that number existed, so it could not have been arranged to pick anybody.
  3. That number lands on the line we said it did.

Open Terminal on a Mac, or any Linux shell, and paste these in turn. If you don’t use a terminal, send this page to someone who does — they need nothing from us but what is printed here.

  1. 1 Get the random number from drand

    Asks drand directly. Nothing in this step touches our servers.

    You should see: a line containing "randomness" — the same value as the table above.

  2. 2 See which line that number lands on

    Combines the random number with the sealed list's fingerprint. There is only one possible answer, and anyone redoing it gets the same one.

    You should see: the same member number shown in the table above, out of 3,031.

  3. 3 Prove the list was sealed before the number existed

    This is the one that matters. A timestamp authority signed over the list fingerprint and the round number at a moment it attests to — before drand had published anything.

    You should see: Verification: OK — and a stamp time earlier than the round's publication time shown above.

No FreeTSA token for this selection, so step 3 cannot be run as written. The tokens we do have are in the JSON record above.
